James Cleverly accused Labour of taking credit for policy he enacted while in Government

Nigel Farage has slammed Labour and the Conservatives after the release of today's net migration figures, calling them "disastrous."

It comes after the figures from the Office for National Statistics suggested people moving to the UK and leaving the country is estimated to have halved, in the biggest fall in net migration since the pandemic.

The figure stood at an estimated 431,000 in the year ending December 2024. This was down 49.9 per cent from 860,000 a year earlier.

Reacting to the figures, Sir Keir Starmer said: "We have returned nearly 30,000 people since the election, 12 per cent more than the last Government.

The Prime Minister continued: "We are taking back control of our borders.

"If you have no right to be in the UK, you will be removed."

However, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage slammed what he called "the great Tory betrayal."

The Clacton MP wrote on social media: "Net migration of over 400,000 for Labour’s first year of government. Not as high as the great Tory betrayal, but still disastrous."

Some 825 migrants arrived in the UK on Wednesday after crossing the English Channel, according to provisional figures from the Home Office.

It is the highest number of arrivals on a single day so far this year.

The cumulative number of arrivals by small boats in 2025 now stands at a provisional total of 13,573.

This is 37 per cent higher than at the same point last year, when the total stood at 9,882, and 86 per cent higher than at this stage in 2023, when the total was 7,297.

There were 13 boats that arrived on Wednesday, which suggests an average of around 63 people per boat.
