The leader of the opposition labelled the Budget 'disastrous' as she responded to Rachel Reeves

Kemi Badenoch responded to Rachel Reeves in the Commons today, labelling her Budget "disastrous".

The leader of the opposition blasted the Chancellor, and said that the second Labour Budget was "a total humiliation".

Mrs Reeves unveiled her Budget after an "unprecedented" leak from the OBR ahead of the statement being read to Parliament.

Mrs Badenoch said: "It's a total humiliation. Last year she put up taxes by £40billion, the biggest tax raid in British history.

"She promised that she wouldn't be back for more. She swore it was a one off. She told everyone that from now on it would be stability and she would pay for everything with growth.

"Today she has broken every single one of those policies. If she had any decency she would resign.

"At the last Budget she said she was proud to be the country's first ever female Chancellor.

"After this Budget she will go down as the country's worst ever Chancellor."

In her furious tirade, Mrs Badenoch added: "She said I'll be there on Wednesday.

"I'll be there next year and I'll be back the year after that. God help us. She is spineless, shameless and completely aimless."

The Chancellor outlined the tax and spending plan for the next year today and has claimed that she has "cut the cost of living", by taking money off bills and freezing prices.

She said she has done this "while keeping every single one" of Labour's manifesto commitments.

There is no austerity or "reckless borrowing" she said, adding that these are "the Labour choices".

Mrs Badenoch said: "Labour are hiking taxes to pay for welfare. This is a Budget for benefits, paid for by working people.

"This Budget increases benefits for 560,000 families by an average of £5,000.

"This benefits street Budget is hiking taxes on workers, pensioners and savers to pay for handouts to keep their backbenchers quiet."
