Britons believe Labour is 'handling most key issues badly' - with immigration in top spot

Sir Keir Starmer has been handed a damning report card after a bombshell poll found that Labour is "failing" on as many as 15 separate issues.

Pollsters at YouGov have revealed that Britons believe the Labour Government is "handling most key issues badly", with just one ranking positively.

More than seven in 10 voters think Labour is handling the NHS and the economy badly, the data says.

And in a further damning assessment, almost three quarters of the public say the Government is handling immigration badly, with 52 per cent saying it is handling the issue "very badly".

Just a fifth of the 8,500 adults polled said the Government had handled the economy and the NHS well, while just one in seven say it had got to grips with Britain's immigration chaos.

The single issue on which Labour polled positively was combatting terrorism, but even that number failed to push the party past 50 per cent.

The public was split 37 to 34 per cent positive to negative on Labour's terror handling, but 28 per cent said they did not know.

And despite the Government's heavy focus on defence, just 34 per cent of Britons believed John Healey's MoD was handling the military well.

Across nearly every issue, 2024 Reform UK voters are the least satisfied by Labour's performance, with this lowest on immigration, where just one per cent believe the Government has done well.

In yet another blow to one of Labour's most hailed policies, Green voters were roughly as unlikely (15 per cent) as Reform voters (16 per cent) to say the Government have handled the environment well.

YouGov counselled that "of course, not all issues are equally important to all Britons", however.

"For instance, around half of the public see immigration as one of the top issues facing the country, while the other half do not.

"And for those who see an issue as mattering, the Government's performance on that issue is likely to have more influence in their evaluation of the Government as a whole."

Behind immigration, the economy and NHS, Labour polls the worst on tax, then welfare and benefits, with 72 and 69 per cent of Britons warning that the Government is handling the issues badly, respectively.

But it just isn't just voters turning on Labour's welfare plans.

As many as 140 of the party's own MPs have signed a letter condemning the Prime Minister's looming spending cuts.

The Government enjoys a working majority of 165, meaning that just 83 Labour MPs would have to rebel for its plans to crumble at a vote this month.
