A Labour MP has been stripped of the party whip after her husband was arrested on suspicion of spying for China.
Joani Reid, a rising star on Labour's backbenches, was administratively suspended tonight after an investigation was launched by the party's governance and legal unit.
The East Kilbride & Strathaven MP is now cooperating with Labour officials after saying she did not see anything to suspect her husband had broken the law.
A Labour Party spokesman said: "Joani Reid has agreed to fully cooperate with the Labour Party's investigation into these matters."

Following her voluntary suspension, Ms Reid pointed out she is not under police investigation and denied any wrongdoing.
She added: "This week has been the worst of my life. The shock of recent days has been difficult for me and my family.
"I want to reiterate something very important: I am not under investigation by the police and no accusations have been against me. I have done nothing wrong.
"I love my country. To serve the people of East Kilbride and Strathaven as their MP and the Labour Party has been – and continues to be – the privilege of my life.

"I understand that speculation and gossip is fevered at a time like this. I do not want the circumstances that I and my family find ourselves in to be a distraction for this Government, of which I am proud and in whom I believe."
However, Ms Reid was placed under investigation by Labour earlier today just 24 hours after her 39-year-old husband, David Taylor, was arrested alongside former Labour staffers Matthew Aplin, 43, and Steve Jones, 68.
The three Labour political advisers, who deny the allegations, have since been released on bail until a date in May.
Officers searched addresses in London, East Kilbride, and Cardiff as part of the investigation.

David Taylor is allegedly among the three men that were arrested today | ASIA HOUSE Following her husband's arrest yesterday, Ms Reid revealed she saw no signs that Mr Taylor broke the law.
"I have never seen anything to make me suspect my husband has broken any law," the East Kilbride & Strathaven MP said.
"I am not part of my husband's business activities, and neither I nor my children are part of this investigation, and we should not be treated by media organisations as though we are.
"Above all I expect media organisations to respect my children's privacy."

| GB NEWSEx-Labour aide James Robinson has since said police searched his home in relation to the arrest of three men over alleged Chinese spying.
Mr Robinson, who is married to former Labour MP Gloria De Piero, said: "I can confirm that police officers visited my home yesterday with a search warrant.
"I understand their attendance was part of enquiries into those arrested and questioned over matters allegedly relating to China.
"Naturally, I co-operated fully with the police and will, of course, continue to do so as long as their investigations into the possible wrongdoing of others continues.

Following the police's China probe, Security Minister Dan Jarvis said: "The Government has been consistent and unambiguous in our assessment that China presents a series of threats to the United Kingdom.
"We remain deeply concerned by an increasing pattern of covert activity from Chinese state-linked actors targeting UK democracy."
GB News also understands Mr Taylor has now been administratively suspended by the Labour Party pending an investigation.
