Domestic agencies will be able to monitor the entirety of the EU’s external borders

Reform UK leader Richard Tice took issue with claims made by former Labour minister Denis MacShane during a heated edition of GB News’ Patrick Christys.

It comes after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said talks are ongoing to secure a deal with the EU’s border agency to get access to the bloc’s migration intelligence.

Domestic agencies will be able to monitor the entirety of the EU’s external borders rather than just shared frontiers, according to the Daily Telegraph.

In a tense clash which ended up in Tice demanding an apology from MacShane, the pair argued over the terms of the agreement.

MacShane said: “We have just decided to go back to where we were in 2016, when we had access to this information.

“Boris Johnson went for a hard Brexit deal, cutting this off. Rishi Sunak is very sensibly trying to sit on the side of the bed with the rest of Europe.”

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Tice hit out at the “warm words” on display, saying they will do little to tackle the big issue at hand.

“Illegal migration is completely out of control”, he said.

“These warm words will not make a jot of difference. The only thing that works is what works in Australia, you pick up and take back which you are entitled to do under International Treaty Law, otherwise nothing will happen, nothing will change.

“Suella Braverman talked about a ‘hurricane of migration’, this hurricane will blow like a brutal storm until we lead the way, we pick up and take back to France.

“At that moment, you can get to grips with the causes of illegal migration.”

MacShane said there are European politicians who share Tice’s sentiments, but are unable to tackle the issue regardless.

He went on to accuse Tice of “not knowing the laws or facts”.

Tice responded: “I know the law, I’ve read the treaty.

“I know exactly which clauses and it’s the only way you’re going to stop this crisis.

“It’s the 1974 Safety on Life at Sea and the 1982 UN Convetion on the Law at Sea.

“I suggest Denis, get a lawyer and then you’ll know I’m right, and then you can come on and apologise.”

Sunak met European leaders at a summit in Granada, Spain when the apparent development is said to have struck.

Under the plan, the UK would work with Belgium to try to disrupt organised immigration crime and clandestine entry to Britain and seek to co-operate further with Serbia on prosecuting and disrupting criminal networks.

The Telegraph reported that the Frontex deal would build on these bilateral pacts by deepening the Border Force’s understanding of smuggler routes through Turkey and the western Balkans.
