Kevin Hollinrake hit out at 'another broken promise' by Labour as the energy price cap increased by two per cent

Asked by GB News host Ellie Costello for his verdict on the increasing price cap, Mr Hollinrake stated: "It's another broken promise by Labour, isn't it?
"They came into office saying they're going to lower energy prices by £300 a year, what you see in the energy cap is now £200 higher than it was in July last year, and that's because of the madcap plans of Ed Miliband."
Mr Hollinrake criticised Ed Miliband's approach to energy policy, particularly the reduction of North Sea gas extraction whilst simultaneously increasing imports.
He also took aim at what he described as an overly aggressive push towards solar and wind power generation.

Regulator Ofgem has increased the energy price cap even further to £1,755
The Tory Chairman explained: "The plans just don't make sense. Closing down gas production in the North Sea, importing more gas, and this headlong rush into more solar and more wind onshore and offshore."
Mr Hollinrake outlined his vision for a more balanced energy strategy, emphasising that the Conservatives support renewable energy but advocate for a diverse approach.
He told GB News: "We're not against wind, but there must be a mix between gas, between wind, particularly offshore wind, and nuclear reactors, small modular nuclear reactors, which we were pushing ahead with.
"So enough of the ideology Ed, look at the practical solutions about how we lower energy prices. It is through that mix."

Responding to the increase, Minister for Energy Michael Shanks said: "We know that any price rise is a concern for families. Wholesale gas prices remain 75 oer cent above their levels before Russia invaded Ukraine. That is the fossil fuel penalty being paid by families, businesses, and our economy.
"That is why the only answer for Britain is this Government’s mission to get us off the rollercoaster of fossil fuel prices and onto clean, homegrown power we control, to bring down bills for good.
"At the same time, we are determined to take urgent action to support vulnerable families this winter.
"That includes expanding the £150 Warm Home Discount to 2.7 million more households and stepping up our overhaul of the energy system to increase protections for customers."
