Sarah Pochin's remarks in Parliament sparked an explosive party row

Reform UK will change its party policy to be in favour of banning the burka, Lee Anderson has told GB News.

The party’s chief whip spoke out about turmoil affecting the party sparked by Sarah Pochin’s comments in Parliament calling for its banning.

Nigel Farage called for a ‘conversation’ while Zia Yusuf said it was ‘dumb’ to call for a ban as it was not party policy before resigning from his post as chairman just hours later.

Speaking on GB News, Lee said he is in favour of a ban and his view will become party policy.

“Face coverings, not just the burka, should be banned full stop”, he said. “It’s a security risk.

“Look at the countries in Europe who we aspire to be like, they’ve got the burka ban. I think we should have one and if we had a vote tomorrow I would vote for it.”

Asked if it will become Reform party policy, he said: “I would imagine so.

“Before the next election, we will have a policy on this. If you speak to any of the five Reform MPs about this, we all want to ban it.”

On Thursday, Yusuf stepped down from the role of Reform UK party chairman shortly after saying it was “dumb” for Pochin to call for a ban.

He said working for a Reform UK government was not a “good use of my time”.

Yusuf appeared to change his mind jut two days later when he said he would continue working for the party in a different role.

Speaking in Port Talbot, Wales, Farage said Yusuf “lost his rage” and “plunged us into a difficult place”.

He also told the crowd he “forgave him” but also warned, “don’t do it again”.

Yusuf admitted he regrets his social media outburst and that “exhaustion led to a poor decision”.

He also dismissed the incident as a “storm in a teacup”.

Yusuf served as chair of the party for eleven months and will not lead its Doge unit, a team inspired by one set up by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk in America.

It was designed to slash costs and cut inefficiencies in US government.

Asked why he had resigned as chairman, Yusuf told the BBC: “I’ve been working pretty much non-stop, virtually no days off.

“It’s very difficult to keep going at that pace.”
