In a situation where Reform has topped every major opinion poll for nearly a year, yet another poll showing yet another Reform win might not cause the smallest stir.
Yet the latest one promises to be something of a whirlwind, for it is Mumsnet which regularly shows a preference for Labour. With eight million followers and soft Left preferences, the result could be called seismic.
According to this poll, Reform is no longer the preserve of disaffected Conservatives and angry Red Wallers but is the party of preference for the nation’s mothers.
The message for Starmer is, of course, appalling, yet another nail in the coffin of his abysmal leadership or rather lack of it. Yet that is probably not the main lesson of this poll, but the confirmation of the disillusionment with the political establishment and with the major parties is.
Mondeo Man, Worcester Woman and some other terms have been coined by pollsters to describe the median voter, the one who determines the outcome of an election, the one who needs to be won over. Mumsnet poster must surely be a pretty good guide.
Mumsnetters care about the NHS and education. They were apparently early indicators of the Brexit tendency. They make a reliable weather vane. And now they prefer the blokeish Nigel Farage to the bookish Keir Starmer.

After 14 years of Tory mess and confusion, they expected him to deliver something better and more hopeful, and he hasn’t, so they are looking elsewhere, just as everybody else seems to be doing.
In the past, the pattern was simple. If a Tory Government was making a pig’s ear of running the country, well, not to worry because Labour will come along and take its place and the Tories will reflect and regroup. Then vice versa when Labour was producing a shambles. But somehow that has not happened.
The Tories were a circus, and Labour have merely changed around the clowns. The gangs have not been smashed, Brexit is being quietly demolished to no visible good effect, the old folk and those on benefit have been the prime targets in economic reforms, prisoners are being let out early on an almost daily basis, millionaires are fleeing the country so we get no tax from them at all, the party on Starmer’s backbenches is in open revolt and the Prime Minister blinks owlishly and looks as if all of this is news to him.
Meanwhile, Farage is prepared to leave the ECHR and detain all those who arrive on our shores in small boats, to reduce taxes, to recognise only two genders, to abandon ruinous net zero targets, to cut the bloated diversity sector, to maximise, not sacrifice, the benefits of Brexit, and to replace woke with free speech.
Agreeing with each and every one of those policies is not necessary in order to recognise that here is a Party which will get things done, which is what the nation now yearns for above all else.
If you are a Mum, then by definition, you are focused on what the next generation will have to cope with. You want an NHS which works, an education system which is focused on results, not political correctness, the country to be adequately defended, and to feel safe on the streets.
Which of those do the main parties offer?
