There was always a certainty about our nation collapsing economically under Labour. It was never an if, it was always a when that our finances would fall apart at the seams.
And the when is now.
Unemployment is back to the covid years, a record 8.3million on Universal Credit, but the one that worries me the most is that we are at the bottom of the pile in startups.
Without new companies soaking up the young and the jobless, we are in big trouble. New stats show the US is roaring ahead, and we are even behind the rest of Europe.
Thanks to a mixture of tax hikes in the Budget (only two weeks away now) and the ongoing effect of last year’s shocking rise in National Insurance, I fully expect our jobless numbers to be knocking seven per cent this time next year.
And it will be two demographics which will pay the price.
- The young, especially graduates, who were promised a golden future by going to university, and all they will have to show for it is £60,000 in debts.
- The over-50s who will find themselves laid off from their previously secure white-collar admin jobs due to AI (one in six firms will be hiring less over the next 12 months due to AI), and the fact that it’s so expensive to employ anybody in the UK, companies will look abroad for their production base.
The gloom can only be partially lifted by the fact that when the disaster of November 26 is finally disclosed, even Labour MPs will decide this can’t go on and throw out Starmer and Reeves.
But does anybody seriously believe it will be better under a Streeting/Rayner double act or a Miliband/Phillipson?

Whoever is in No.10 will continue to believe taxing the middle classes to death so the SKIDS (Skint Idle Dim Socialists) can continue to live lives untroubled by work is a triumph.
Coupled with the jump in jobless is the news from the ONS that public sector workers whose employment more secure with better pensions, have more sick days and less productivity (i.e. lazier) saw their pay in the three months to September increase by 6.6 per cent while the private sector which creates the wealth to keep the state functioning, only rose by 4.2 per cent.
How mad is that?
My concern is that Labour has a majority so large that no matter how clear it is that they are going down, they will continue to tax the living hell out of the ambitious strivers so that their subsidised voter base doesn’t feel the effects of their stupidity.
Coming up in that Budget is a property tax where I expect to see council tax double at the top end to nearly £10,000 a year. What does anybody get for that money? Just disappears into the council coffers, with 25 per cent heading to the pensions.
Reeves can’t wait to get her hands on your money. This will go on, and on, and on under new Socialist Chancellors, until 2029.
It’s very painful if you have made anything of yourselves, but great if you enjoy having your life subsidised by somebody else.
Sorry to be so gloomy, but you knew, we all knew, that the day would come under this government where the wheels finally fell off the economy.
That, regrettably, is today.
