When I was younger, I remember great politicians like Margaret Thatcher and even Tony Blair.
People with conviction, like Ted Heath and Neil Kinnock. They were passionate about what they did, and they got things done. They accepted democracy and understood that they were public servants.
However, this latest batch, and by that I mean those who didn’t get what they wanted since Brexit, have become, in my view, more self-interested and career-driven.
They don’t seem bothered about serving the will of the people or upholding democracy, but more about looking good on the global stage and furthering their own financial interests.

Frankly, they’ve dropped the ball and don’t appear to exist in the same world as us, the electorate.
Britain is, I’m sad to say, broken and it’s these people I blame. Welcome to clown world. They can’t get anything right.
The Conservatives were not conservative and made an absolute farce of the immigration system.
Then along came Labour, scrapping the only thing that made sense. The Rwanda scheme was dead and buried before it started. It was never a deterrent.
Everybody, especially the gangs that run this, worked out that the chance of anyone actually going to Rwanda was so slim, less than one per cent, that it was never going to stop anyone.
Instead, we got this new slogan: "Smash the gangs".
They’ve since gone pretty quiet about that, replacing it with “one in, one out”.
Since that was announced, we’ve had over 11,000 come in, and 42 go out.
One Iranian migrant who was returned to France even paid smugglers a second time to come back to the UK, this time claiming he’s fleeing France, presumably with a taxpayer-funded legal team.
Apparently, he’s now a victim of human trafficking. You couldn’t make it up. The migrants who do arrive via dinghy are left to roam free.
Now, of course, we have the Epping hotel asylum seeker who arrived via small boat, was sentenced to 12 months for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old, and was released from jail by accident.
I don’t even want to go into the details of how they managed to send him on his way with a £76 sustenance payment to cover his first week’s expenses, it’s just too embarrassing.
All our systems are failing because we cannot take the strain. Our NHS is creaking.
Schools are failing, unable to cope with the huge number of pupils arriving. The economy is flatlining.
Hadush Kebatu is believed to be in the London area | PAWe need to stop rolling out the red carpet for people who claim to be fleeing persecution from the safety of France and detain anyone who comes here via small boat.
And by that, I mean in secure centres. That alone would be a deterrent. We simply cannot afford this.
What are we paying our politicians for? They’re useless.
