A second offensive saw the owner's other dog join in the brutal attack

A woman was left fuming and kicked a bin down in a corridor after a court ruled that her XL Bully will be put down.

The court heard Amy Legemah’s "out-of-control" dog bit a teenager just days after attacking a a seven-year-old boy.

In March last year, the XL Bully named Hugo bit a child’s leg near Legemah’s home in Thamesmead, south east London.

Just 11 days later the dog launched another attack on a teenager causing an injury to her ankle, after he escaped from his owner.

During the second attack Legemah’s other dog - a Rottweiler called Luna - also joined in.

The owner appeared in court on Tuesday to explain why Hugo should not be destroyed, but Judge Anya Lewis KC ruled that the dog does present a risk to the public.

Legemah previously pleaded guilty to two counts of being the owner of a dangerously out of control dog which caused injury.

As the Judge confirmed Hugo would be put down, the 37-year-old shouted "please no, he’s my son" before kicking a rubbish bin down the hall as she left the courtroom.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Woolwich Crown Court heard the first incident involved a seven-year-old who had been petting Luna, when one of the boy’s relatives asked Legemah to bring Hugo out.

Obi Mgbokwere, prosecuting said: "The boy was running and playing with another child when the XL Bully went to him without warning, grabbed his leg and bit it."

Legemah pulled Hugo away and was "very apologetic" as the child was taken to hospital for treatment.

The second attack happened after Legemah tripped and dropped both dogs leads near her home.

The XL Bully jumped at an 18-year-old student who was passing the flat, biting her elbow and right knee, before Luna joined in the attacked and bit the woman’s ankle.

The owner ran out and gained control of her dogs before was again very apologetic.

Barrister Nicholas Ferrari, representing Legemah, said: "Ms Legemah had adopted Hugo from a bad home where he had suffered abuse and mistreatment in the past.

"At the time of these incidents, he was still young and learning about the world. That unpredictability is now a thing of the past and we would say that he doesn’t pose a threat to the public."

Judge Lewis sentenced Legemah to a one-year community order and said: "There are two incidents involving Hugo injuring someone in a short period of time. You yourself said Hugo can be unpredictable.

"It’s been explained to me that by unpredictable you meant that he had come from an abusive background. That doesn’t change the fact that he is unpredictable. I am not satisfied that Hugo would pose no risk to the public. Therefore I must make a destruction order."
