The US and Ukraine have created a fresh 19-point framework for peace negotiations after ripping up an earlier proposal endorsed by Donald Trump.
The revised plan emerged from talks between the two nations' delegations - and essentially abandons the original 28-point document.
The plan, developed by Mr Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Russia's Kirill Dmitriev, had sparked panic in Ukraine and its European partners.
Meanwhile, Mr Trump had pressed for his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky to approve the original document before Thanksgiving on Thursday.
But the new proposals represent a substantial departure from the first version, according to Ukrainian representatives involved in the negotiations.
Ukraine had initially been required to surrender territory currently under its control to Russia.
Under the first plan, it would have been barred from ever becoming a Nato member, and would have seen the number of people in its armed forces capped.
Sergiy Kyslytsya, Ukraine's First Deputy Foreign Minister, revealed that negotiators had overhauled the document entirely.

"Very few things are left from the original version," he told the Financial Times.
"We developed a solid body of convergence, and a few things we can compromise on. The rest will need leadership decisions. Almost everything we suggested was taken on board."
The delegations reached consensus on a range of issues - but on some, including territorial matters and Nato, Mr Trump and Mr Zelensky will have to thrash things out face-to-face.
On his nightly broadcast to Ukraine, Mr Zelensky said: "As of now, after [talks in] Geneva, there are fewer points, no longer 28, and many correct elements have been incorporated into this framework. The sensitive issues, the most delicate points, I will discuss with President Trump."

While the US President added on social media: "Is it really possible that big progress is being made in Peace Talks between Russia and Ukraine???
"Don't believe it until you see it, but something good just may be happening."
White House press chief Karoline Leavitt on Monday added that only a "couple of points of disagreements" remained.
"The President remains hopeful and optimistic that a deal can be struck," Ms Leavitt told Fox News.
The unpublished new framework is said to draw from a European counterproposal created by Britain, France and Germany, which keeps open the possibility of Ukrainian Nato membership and delays territorial discussions until after a ceasefire is established.

Yuri Ushakov, a Kremlin foreign policy aide, declared on Monday that the European plan was "at first glance completely unconstructive and does not work for us".
Vladimir Putin maintains that Ukrainian Nato membership would threaten Russia's national security - though his country already borders six member states without issue.
He has indicated the initial American plan might serve as a foundation for ending Europe's largest conflict since 1945, though it would require "substantive discussion".
