A teenage boy remains in critical condition following a severe shark attack off the coast of Australia.
The 14-year-old sustained life-threatening injuries when a shark inflicted a devastating bite to his chest area on Saturday evening.
The attack happened in waters off Cook Esplanade on Thursday Island at approximately 6.20pm local time, when the victim entered the water while spending time with a group of fellow teenagers.
The predator's assault resulted in extensive damage to the boy's abdomen and internal organs, leading to significant blood loss.

Torres Shire Council Mayor Elsie Seriat said the boys rescued their friend by dragging him out of the water.

The attack happened in waters off Cook Esplanade on Thursday Island
|Emergency services responded rapidly to the incident, with Queensland Ambulance Service personnel transporting the critically injured teenager to Thursday Island Hospital.
Due to the severity of his condition, the medical staff arranged an urgent airlift transfer.
The boy was subsequently flown to Townsville University Hospital in North Queensland, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Medical teams at the specialist facility have been working to address the extensive internal injuries and stabilise his condition.

The transfer to the larger hospital was deemed necessary given the life-threatening nature of the wounds sustained during the attack.
Mayor Seriat said in a statement: "This incident is very unfortunate, and our hopes and prayers go out to the boy and his family at this difficult time.
"Public safety is of paramount importance for the Council, and we strongly encourage everyone to be mindful and aware of the dangers in our surrounding waters and to always use good judgment.
"Our small community feels this deeply. We know many people are thinking of the young boy, his friends and their families. Please continue to keep them in your hearts and prayers."
