Emergency crews attended to injured Ryanair staff after violent turbulence struck a flight bound for Mallorca.

The aircraft, carrying approximately 180 passengers from Vitoria in northern Spain to Palma, encountered the severe atmospheric disturbance whilst preparing for landing.

Medical teams rushed to Son Sant Joan airport, with an ambulance meeting the aircraft directly at the steps to treat the wounded crew members.

The incident occurred during what had been an otherwise routine journey, transforming the final moments into a frightening ordeal for those aboard.

Passengers were eventually permitted to leave the aircraft following several minutes of medical attention for the injured staff.

The turbulence struck without warning as attendants were conducting routine safety procedures, ensuring passenger seats and tray tables were properly positioned for landing.

One crew member was violently propelled upwards, striking the aircraft's ceiling, whilst a colleague suffered impact from a catering cart they had been manoeuvring through the aisle.

Multiple staff members sustained injuries as they were standing when the aircraft lurched suddenly, leaving them vulnerable to the violent movement.

Travellers described experiencing intense shaking throughout the cabin, with many reporting moments of panic as the unexpected turbulence hit.

The majority of attendants had been on their feet performing final checks, making them particularly susceptible to injury when the aircraft jolted.

Weather conditions played a significant role in Sunday's incident, with a storm system advancing eastward across the Mediterranean region.

Forecasters had predicted heavy rainfall and storms for Mallorca overnight, with the adverse conditions already causing operational disruptions at multiple airports.

The turbulent weather had begun affecting flights throughout the Mediterranean, with particular complications reported in Catalonia.

Palma Airport was already experiencing weather-related delays when the affected Ryanair flight approached for landing.

The storm front moving through the area created hazardous flying conditions, contributing to the sudden and violent turbulence that caught the crew unprepared.

These meteorological challenges transformed what should have been a straightforward two-hour journey into a harrowing experience for all aboard.

This marks the latest in a series of turbulence-related incidents involving the budget carrier this year.

In June, nine individuals, including a young child and crew member, required medical treatment when a Ryanair service from Berlin to Milan encountered violent thunderstorms, forcing an emergency diversion to Memmingen Airport in Bavaria.

A company representative stated at the time: "FR8 from Berlin to Milan on June 4 diverted to Memmingen after experiencing some air turbulence. The captain called ahead for medical assistance and the aircraft landed normally."

The airline arranged alternative transport and replacement flights for affected passengers, offering apologies for the disruption.
