Russia has hit a British Council building in an attack on Kyiv, as overnight missiles leave at least 14 people dead.

Vladimir Putin blitzed Ukraine's capital city with hypersonic missiles and 629 drones as the war rages on despite peace talks held in the US.

Two missiles were fired into the building, located on Zhylyanska Street, approximately 20 seconds apart.

Although the British Council operates independently, it receives funding from the Foreign Office.

The building's windows were shattered, with glass and debris scattered on the street.

Another building that was occupied by the European Union's delegation to Kyiv was also struck during the attack.

Residents and emergency workers helped clear rubble from the streets in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The strikes mark the second-largest drone attack of the entire war, despite his talks with US President Donald Trump to end the conflict.

Sir Keir Starmer joined Ukrainian President Zelensky, and European leaders for a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House for peace talks on the war.

In a statement, Downing Street said that the visit helped "reassert his position that the path to peace cannot be decided without President Zelensky, and co-chairing a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing this afternoon to discuss the progress to provide Ukraine with robust security guarantees in the event of any deal".

It added: "At the meeting that will take place at the White House tomorrow, the Prime Minister, with other European partners, stands ready to support this next phase of further talks and will reaffirm that his backing for Ukraine will continue as long as it takes."

However, despite negotiations between President Trump and the Russian President, followed by the European summit in Washington, a peace deal was not secured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said: "Russia chooses ballistics instead of the negotiating table.

"It chooses to continue killing instead of ending the war."

He added: "This means that Russia still does not fear the consequences.

"All deadlines have already been broken, dozens of opportunities for diplomacy ruined. Russia must feel accountable for every strike, for every day of this war."
