Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has vowed to put a stop to strikes on neighbouring countries

Iran has apologised to its neighbours in the Gulf that have been hit by strikes, as Donald Trump mulls over putting boots on the ground, according to reports.

Broadcasting a video message on Iranian state television, President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed to put a stop to strikes on neighbouring countries, insisting: "From now on, do not attack neighbouring countries unless attacked first."

"I deem it necessary to apologise to neighbouring countries that were attacked," he said.

"We do not intend to invade neighbouring countries," he added, calling for regional cooperation to "establish peace and calm".

"Those considering exploiting this moment to attack Iran must not become puppets of imperialism," he concluded.

Israel targeted Tehran during the latest tirade of the Iranian capital overnight, in what was billed the "biggest bombing campaign" yet.

Massive explosions could be heard at the Mehrabad Airport in Tehran, with videos circulating online showing huge fires and plumes of thick smoke in the area, with multiple planes set ablaze.

Mehrabad airport is said to be Iran's busiest airport and is home to several aerospace companies that have been linked to Iran's defence industry.

More than 80 fighter jets pummelled the strikes in Iran on Saturday, Israel said, targeting government and regime infrastructure. Lebanon's capital, Beirut, was also hit.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned on Friday "tonight will be our biggest bombing campaign" in Iran, saying: "We will do the most damage to the Iranian missile launchers, the factories that build the missiles," he said. "We are substantially degrading them and our campaign has been overwhelming."

The Israel Defense Forces said it had "struck several military sites", including "the main Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps military university, the Imam Hossein University, which was used for the training of IRGC officers."

In response, Iran launched a bombardment of their own towards Israel, with explosions heard in Tel Aviv as Israeli air defence systems intercepted missiles and drones.

Saudi Arabia said it stopped four drones attacking the Shaybah oil field – one of the nation's largest energy assets – on Saturday, while an explosion was also reported over Dubai airport after a presumed missile interception.

The airport "temporarily suspended" all operations on Saturday, for "the safety of passengers, airport staff, and airline crew".

The United Arab Emirates reported intercepting more than 125 drones and six ballistic missiles within the last 24 hours.

Air raid alerts were also heard across Jerusalem and Manama.

It comes after reports MrTrump is seriously considering deploying boots on the ground in Iran, following the cancellation of a major training exercise.

A drill for the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, which includes a team of up to 5,000 troops, was unexpectedly scrapped, with one senior official telling the Washington Post: "We’re all preparing for something – just in case."

Further senior sources report the President has privately expressed interest in putting US soldiers in the Middle East.

With the war entering its second week, Mr Trump warned there would be no peace deal without the "unconditional surrender" of the Iranian regime.

He added the US will "work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction, making it economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before".

The President later said he would rate the war in Iran between "12 and 15" out of 10 so far.

"In Iran, we’re doing very well. Somebody said, 'How would you score it from 0 to 10?’ I said, ‘I give it a 12 to a 15'," he told reporters.

According to Iran's health ministry, the US-Israel offensive has now killed over 900 people in Iran.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for an immediate ceasefire during a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
