The IDF confirmed it had received three coffins from the Red Cross

Hamas handed over the remains of three more Gaza hostages, according to Israel.

The group have said the remains were discovered in a southern Gaza tunnel on Sunday.

Israel Defence Forces confirmed that "three coffins of deceased hostages" were taken into its care after being delivered by the Red Cross this evening.

However, tests will be done to verify their identity at the forensic institute in Tel Aviv.

Sources in Israel said the remains of three other people handed back on Saturday did not match any of the missing hostages, Sky News reported.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered new airstrikes in Gaza earlier this week.

He accused Hamas of releasing remains of a hostage who had already been recovered.

The remaining 20 living hostages were freed by Hamas under the Gaza ceasefire deal, starting on October 10.

The remains of 28 dead Israelis were due to be immediately handed over.

However, Hamas blamed the ruins in Gaza and a lack of equipment in order to locate them.

The Red Cross and Egypt have used diggers to help with the search.

Hamas had handed over 17 sets of remains previously.

But, the bodies of 11 more hostages were believed to still be in the strip, including remains of two foreign nationals.

Israel accused Hamas of stalling.

The country said on Thursday the remains of two hostages returned by Hamas had been confirmed as Sahar Baruch and Amiram Cooper.

Both were taken during the October 7 terrorist attack.

During the truce, Israel released nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.

It has also handed over 200 bodies.

Gaza health authorities said 236 people had been killed in strikes since the ceasefire started.

Almost half are claimed to have occurred in one day earlier this week.

Israel said it retaliated for the death of a soldier in "enemy fire".

However, Hamas denied responsibility for the shooting.
