The supermarket worker warned people she was frightened for her safety due to her ex’s behaviour

An Aldi worker has been shot dead by an ex-partner while stacking supermarket shelves in front of horrified shoppers.

The 38-year-old victim, named as Aysel I, was killed after Plamen P pulled out a semi-automatic gun and fired several shots.

At least one bullet hit her in the head, killing her instantly.

The gunman then turned the weapon on himself and died at the supermarket near Frankfurt in Germany on January 15.

Police officers rushed to Mörfelden-Walldorf and cordoned off the supermarket.

Witnesses who saw Aysel I’s death have been offered counselling.

The victim, a Bulgarian of Turkish descent, had lived in Germany for 13 years.

Plamen, also originally from Bulgaria, shot her as he was bitter about their breakup.

The 48-year-old, who had no criminal record, was in a relationship with Aysel for five months.

Aysel cut things off with Plamen about six months ago during a holiday trip to the couple's home country.

Plamen started stalking his ex following the breakup, with Aysel’s friends and family claiming she reported him to the police on several occasions.

Aysel also hired a lawyer and requested for a restraining order to be brought against Plamen.

She previously said: “I’ll go to work and won’t come home. He will come and kill me.”

Aysel’s brother Altanay added: “He destroyed her. He didn’t leave her alone.”

Speaking about the victim, the 47-year-old also said: “She was my only sister.

“She was such a lively, joyful, and friendly person. She was a dedicated saleswoman and very popular.”

Plamen was already due to attend a court hearing in Groß-Gerau on February 15 about an alleged assault on the victim.

He was accused of turning up at her flat uninvited and choking her.

Prosecutors will investigate how Plamen obtained the weapon given he did not have a firearms licence.

The Aldi supermarket, where Aysel had only been employed for a year, was closed for cleaning yesterday and candles were placed at the entrance.
