Despite the rare beast attracting fans from across Bangladesh, it will be put to death as part of the Islamic 'Festival of Sacrifice'

Muslim worshippers in Bangladesh are set to sacrifice a rare albino buffalo nicknamed "Donald Trump" as part of the Islamic Eid al-Adha celebrations.

The 1,500lb beast has become an internet sensation in the South Asian country due to its flowing golden hair - with many drawing parallels to the US President.

Since going viral across social media, there has been a stream of visitors to the farm where he lives near the country's capital of Dhaka hoping to get a glimpse of the animal.

Zia Uddin Mridha, 38, the buffalo's owner, said his brother named him after Mr Trump due to its "extraordinary hair".

The Bangladeshi farmer said: "My younger brother jokingly named it Donald Trump after seeing the hair on its head.

"It is very calm in nature. Albino buffaloes are generally peaceful and do not become aggressive unless provoked."

He added that his property has been inundated throughout the entirety of May, with people travelling across the country to visit the rare beast.

One visitor - who had travelled to the farm with five friends and family members - remarked: “Truly, the features are similar between the buffalo and President Donald Trump."

The fan also revealed that his nephew had taken a one-hour boat journey just to marvel at the peculiar creature.

The buffalo - which is four years old - has been looked after by Mr Mridha over the past year.

But Donald Trump is set to be slaughtered within weeks as the Muslim country prepares for the festival of Eid al-Adha.

An estimated 12 million livestock will be ritualistically killed in Bangladesh in celebration of the Islamic holiday.

Eid al-Adha is known as the "Festival of Sacrifice" and is one of the most important days in the Islamic calendar.

Mr Mridha said he was "going to miss Donald Trump", but added: "That is the core spirit of Eid al-Adha - making a sacrifice".

Another buffalo set to be slaughtered is named "Benjamin Netanyahu", with the farm manager insisting he bears "resemblance" to the Israeli Prime Minister.

"Netanyahu is very naughty and has a devious intelligence," he noted.

Eid al-Adha is one of two main festivals celebrated in the Islamic faith, alongside Eid al-Fitr.

This year, the holiday will fall on May 26, with festivities spanning three days.

It will be celebrated by more than 150 million Muslims in Bangladesh, who make up over 91 per cent of the nation's population.

The South Asian country is the fourth largest Islamic country in the world - behind Indonesia, Pakistan and India.
