The ex-Prime Minister lamented that 'there isn't quite the jubilation you'd expect on the left'

Boris Johnson has hailed Donald Trump for negotiating the Gaza peace deal, adding that the President “deserves” the Nobel Peace Prize.

The former Prime Minister attributed the monumental diplomatic breakthrough to Mr Trump, claiming the US President used his office alongside a “the bouncy castle, explosive force of his own personality”.

“Certainly, I don't think it would have been done without his agency, without his effort,” Mr Johnson told GB News host Ben Leo.

Mr Trump being able to make the deal is “absolutely stick in the craw of the lefties around the world”, the avid Brexiteer added.

“Donald Trump has unquestionably helped to deliver this; there isn't quite the jubilation you'd expect on the left. But for most serious, sensible people, this is a good moment,” John added.

However, the former Prime Minister warned that there was still a lot left to do, with only the first stage of Mr Trump’s peace deal being settled so far.

“It really could be the beginning of the end,” Mr Johnson added.

The deal, announced late on Wednesday, kickstarted a ceasefire in Gaza, with Israeli military has started to withdraw from parts of the Strip.

Twenty living Israeli hostages will be released, as well as 250 Palestinian prisoners and 1,700 detainees.

It came after a slew of nations, including the UK, recognised Palestine as a state.

Mr Johnson rebuked Sir Keir Starmer for recognising Palestine, arguing that “it’s not what [he] would have done”.

Earlier today, the White House slammed the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s decision to hand the prestigious award to someone other than Mr Trump.

"The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace," White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung said.

"President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will."

Instead of the Republican grandee, Venezuelan politician María Corina Machado was bestowed the prestigious honour for her tireless fight against dictatorship.

However, the politician addressed the elephant in the room, dedicating the prize to the US President for his "decisive support".

She wrote: “We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy.

"I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!"

Mr Trump said the breakthrough came after "days of intense negotiations", adding that "peace through strength" had brought both sides to the table.

On several occasions, Mr Trump has said that he believes he deserves the honour, saying that "many people" thought so too during his first term.

Earlier this year, the US President reiterated his worthiness during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He said: "They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize. I deserve it, but they will never give it to me."

Mr Netanyahu also put pressure on organisers to hand Mr Trump the prize.

He said: "Give [him] the Nobel Peace Prize - he deserves it."
