The new owners of Cooladdi will run a pub, a cafe, restaurant, a shop, motel units, a cabin and post office in the outback

An entire town in the Australian outback has gone up on sale for $400,000 AUD (£210,000 GBP).

Prospective buyers will receive the Foxtrap Roadhouse, a four bedroom home, and the keys to Cooladdi, located more than 800 kilometres west of Brisbane, Queensland.

The town once had a population of about 270 people but now has just two residents, Carol Yarrow and Jo Cornel.

The pair bought the roadhouse in 2023 with a three-year plan, which has now come to an end - with Ms Yarrow intending to retire and Ms Cornel seeking to move.

Ms Yarrow told GB News: "Jo wants to go back to Brisbane to be closer to family. So it's time to move on and let somebody else take over this great little town."

Cooladdi was once a railway hub and is anchored by a local post office, which operates out of the roadhouse.

The new owners will be expected to have numerous responsibilities.

"There's plenty of work to do because we've got a pub, a cafe, restaurant, a shop, motel units, a cabin, post office for two mile runs," said Ms Yarrow.

The town of two also comes with its own postcode - 4479.

Appealing to GB News viewers, Ms Yarrow said Cooladdi had a lot going for it.

She said: "It's just in a great community. It's a laid-back lifestyle. We look around and all we see is mulga trees.

"We get a lot of passing traffic through and and a lot of lovely locals."

While the population of the village is just two, people living in nearby cattle villages for miles around come through the roadhouse to the pub and shop.

Asked why the pair bought the town, Ms Yarrow said: "Jo wanted a sea change out of Brisbane, and I have a love of the west because I was born and bred out further west than here, right out in southwest Queensland.

"And so we just decided, let's go and give it a go."

The once-bustling town's population fell as the local sheep industry shrank, the trains stopped coming, and the school closed for good in 1974.

Around that same time, Beryl and Bob Fox built the Foxtrap Roadhouse to make sure Cooladdi remained a key meeting point.

The sale is being managed by Becky Jeisman from Charleville Real Estate.

Charleville, with a population of 3,000, is the closest major centre to the town, where an average house sells for about $210,000.

Prospective buyers will have at least one bid to compete with for the competitively-priced property, with Ms Yarrow telling GB News they had received "only one silly offer at this stage".
