A 15-year-old has been jailed for five years after he killed a seven-year-old girl while racing at speeds of 52mph on a stolen motorbike.

Katniss Seleznev was hit by the boy - who cannot be named due to his age - on a blue Suzuki motorbike while she played near her home in Walsall.

The horror incident was witnessed by Seleznev's twin brother and older sister.

On July 27 last year, the girl was seen being thrown 20 metres down Turnstone Road - which has a 20mph limit.

Seleznev was riding a pink three-wheeled scooter when she was fatally injured.

Wolverhampton Crown Court was told that the boy did not stop after ploughing into the young girl.

He had also been convicted of multiple driving offences just a month before the crash and received a referral order, the court heard.

On Wednesday, he was sentenced to 64 months in prison after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, of which he will serve half before he is released on licence.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

One witness told police that the motorbike was being ridden by a boy with his hood up and his face covered by a balaclava.

She said he narrowly avoided crashing into her vehicle as the bike travelled on the wrong side of the road.

The woman saw the crash and ran over to give CPR to the girl.

Police found the stolen bike burnt and in some bushes.

GETTY

Defending, Robert Cowley said the boy had a difficult upbringing and was developmentally immature for his age.

Judge Michael Chambers KC, Recorder of Wolverhampton said: "Katniss died as a result of you deliberately riding a motorbike on the wrong side of a residential street towards an oncoming car, and then driving so fast you collided with Katniss who was out with her brother and sister, riding quite properly, on the street by her home.

He added: "There is no suggestion you braked and Katniss had no chance. It is fair to say that you were upset after the collision and I accept you are remorseful, but it was the police who came to you, not the other way round."
