Tourists' popularity results in village activities frequently coming to a complete standstill

The picturesque Welsh village has become gridlocked due to an influx of visitors heading to its popular beach.

Locals are expressing growing frustration as the village regularly grinds to a halt during peak tourist seasons.

Visitors flocking to Traeth Llanddwyn and Newborough Forest are causing significant traffic problems for residents.

The beach, which regularly features in top 10 lists, has become a victim of its own popularity.

Its tidal island is a particular draw for tourists, resulting in village activities frequently coming to a complete standstill.

Grandmother-of-seven Annwen Williams, 58, told North Wales Live: "For years there have been lots of meetings and lots of talk but not enough action.

"Well, we are now the action! We're fed up and we need things to change. And we won't be backing down – this weekend's protest won't be the last."

She added: "We'll keep doing them until something is finally done to sort out the village's traffic problems."

However, local residents have been giving their verdict on the issue.

One wrote: "Seems to me that the only answer is to ban any car not displaying a local resident’s parking permit from the village and to actually police it by fining and/or towing.

"I have a great deal of sympathy for residents who are trapped by drivers parking antisocially. It drives my eyes to the corners when someone parks across our driveway even for a short time (on double yellows).

"If this is a longstanding problem for locals then why, I wonder, has the local council allowed it to continue with no intercession? Lack of interest?"

Another added: "The problem is that locals can’t get out of their driveways because cars are parked.

"Traffic chaos with queues on all roads and then fires on the beach near forest which is tinder dry. It’s got worse over last few years. Gridlock I really sympathise with them."

A third claimed said: "Great idea and I’m sure there will be plenty of support from the locals.

"Nothing worse than living in a village which grinds to a stop during the holidays. About time the Council & NRW get their heads together to resolve the gridlock caused by traffic."
