One resident described Mr Broadhurst as 'the last person on Earth that you would think somebody would go for'

A man who died after a triple-stabbing in London has been named locally as 49-year-old Wayne Broadhurst.

Neighbours say bin man Mr Broadhurst died during the attack on Midhurst Gardens in Uxbridge on Monday evening while he was out walking his dog.

Two others were stabbed including a 45-year-old man who suffered life-changing injuries and a 14-year-old boy, the Metropolitan Police said.

A 22-year-old Afghan national who entered the UK in a lorry in 2020 was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

One witness told the Daily Mail he saw a man "chasing a man and a boy around the road and a local man who was with his dog tried to stop it".

Another resident, who did not wish to be named, said Mr Broadhurst was "just doing the normal dog walk that he does every day" at the time of the fatal stabbing.

"I’ve been here two years and would see him walk past the window," she said.

She described him as "the last person on Earth that you would think somebody would go for".

She said she had taken some flowers and a box of shortbread over for his partner and added: "I still can’t get over it.

"If he was five or 10 minutes later taking the dog out would the same thing have happened?"

A group of around 100 men, women and children gathered to lay flowers near the police tape at the junction between Midhurst Gardens and Leybourne Road on Tuesday night, with some lighting candles.

One Union flag was held above the crowd as they gathered shortly before 7.30pm.

The Home Office confirmed the suspect arrested over the stabbing had entered Britain in a lorry before claiming asylum, which was granted in 2022.

Officials also confirmed that he is not resident in an asylum hotel or any other Home Office accommodation, despite claims on social media.

The Met Police added that the suspect "lived in a private residential address".

A Home Office spokesman said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those impacted by this horrific incident.

"We are receiving regular updates from the Metropolitan Police.

"The priority must now be for the police to investigate so those responsible can be brought to justice."

Police said the attack is not being treated as terrorism and detectives are working to establish any relationship between the suspect and the three victims.

Chief Superintendent Jill Horsfall said: "This was a shocking and senseless act of violence that has left one man dead and two others injured.
