The suspect behind the shooting of two National Guard soldiers near the White House has been named and identified as an Afghan national.
Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, has been confirmed as the suspect in today’s shootings, senior law enforcement sources told US media.
He was also shot.
Fox News reports the Afghan entered the States in 2021 as part of "Operation Allies Welcome" in the aftermath of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan - similar to Britain's own covered-up relocation scheme.
Lakanwal's permission to be in the US is said to have expired this September - meaning he is now in the country illegally.
After his status was revealed, Donald Trump labelled the shootings "an act of terror".
"This heinous assault was an act of evil, an act of hatred and an act of terror," Mr Trump said. "We must now re-examine every single alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden."
The FBI earlier launched a terrorism probe after the Guardsmen were shot - with NBC reporting that they were hit in the head in a "targeted" attack.
Whille DC police had declared a "critical incident" around 2.40pm local time (7.40pm GMT) and locked down the immediate area of the shooting.
