US illegal border crossings have jumped by 277 per cent since the start of the Biden administration

Former US Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott has outlined the severity of border crossings of illegal migrants, as Joe Biden faces increasing pressure to crack down on numbers.

This follows the latest figures which reveal over two million people crossed the US-Mexico border in 2023.

Illegal border crossings across the United States southern border have also jumped massively since the start of the Biden administration.

According to US Customs and Border Patrol data, almost six million crossings have taken place, a 277 per cent increase from the same period during Trump's term, from 2017 to 2019.

Biden has previously said he "cannot stop" migrants crossing into the United States, but requires all those who wish to enter "to do so under US law".

US Customs and Border Protection said they will continue to prioritise border security "as necessary".

Speaking to GBN America, Rodney Scott highlighted that the US is now facing "the light of day" and transparency" about the severity of the border crossings crisis.

Scott told host Jacob Rees-Mogg that the left wing of the US has "hijacked America's compassion".

Scott explained: "The left made us think if you weren't welcoming and didn't allow all this criminality to take place, that you just weren't a good person. And it's easy to say that until it's in your front yard.

"Now there's massive numbers of migrants showing up, not just New York but Chicago, Denver, all over the country, they just kind of slowly blended in. But there's too many.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Scott continued: "And now they're seeing first hand what we've been seeing on the southwest border for years and they're starting to see the dollars and cents add up.

"People are starting to wake up and say, hey, this isn't really what we thought it was."

In criticism of Joe Biden's efforts to tackle the illegal migration crossings, Scott said the US "cannot tolerate a complete open border" which leaves the migrants "running loose".

Scott added: "You can't feed the entire world. It just doesn't work that way."

Jacob was in agreement with Scott, adding: "It seems unfair when New York City, as I understand it, gives more to illegal immigrants than it does to the domestic people who are facing hardship."

Scott responded: "That's 100% correct. And hopefully people are now seeing that it's been going on for years, but it's just kind of been below the surface.

"And if anything good comes out of this, a lot of Americans are being forced to look at the situation holistically from a little bit of a of a different perspective. And hopefully that results in voting a little bit differently in the future."
