Donald Trump issued an order in February instructing the Pentagon to declassify all records relating to UFOs and extraterrestrial life, a directive that could expose mysteries kept hidden for decades.
Joshua Golembeske, a field investigator with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), one of the oldest civilian UFO research bodies globally, described the move as groundbreaking.
"This is significant. A sitting US President publicly calling for the release of UAP-related information is unprecedented," Mr Golembeske told the Daily Mail.
He posed the central question facing Americans: "What reality-bending secrets or world-changing technologies could be sitting inside these programmes?"

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has been charged with overseeing the production of these files, with a coalition of lawmakers now backing the president's push for answers.
Less than a month after Trump's directive, on March 18, the White House secured the domain aliens.gov, sparking immediate speculation about its intended purpose.
In recent weeks, the federal website has begun displaying signs of activity despite remaining inaccessible to the public.
The domain is now returning an SSL error, a technical indicator suggesting it may be connected to a live server that has not yet been fully configured for public viewing.

Such errors typically arise when a server has been established but lacks the digital certificate necessary for secure connections.
This development suggests the site is no longer dormant and could be undergoing active development, even though no content has been made publicly available.
The registration and subsequent technical activity have fuelled expectations that an official disclosure platform may be in preparation.
Mr Golembeske believes the disclosure could verify several well-documented incidents that have captivated UFO researchers for decades.

Among these is the Roswell crash, where a New Mexico rancher discovered strange debris in 1974 that the US Army initially identified as a "flying disc" before swiftly changing its explanation to a weather balloon.
The 2004 "Tic Tac" encounter could also receive official confirmation, referring to the oblong white object observed by Navy pilots travelling at extraordinary speeds off the California coast.
Fighter pilot David Fravor testified to Congress in 2023 that the roughly 40-foot craft, lacking windows or wings, mirrored his movements before accelerating to thousands of miles per hour and appearing moments later at a classified rendezvous point 60 miles distant.
The 1978 Fort Dix incident, involving reports of a glowing object over the New Jersey military base, may also feature in any release.

"First comes acknowledgement that we are not alone, and then it gets weird," he said, anticipating a gradual and carefully controlled release of information.
The second phase would involve defining precisely what these mysterious phenomena represent, followed by revelations about the nature of any beings involved, whether extraterrestrial, interdimensional, or something entirely different.
Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna has claimed to have witnessed evidence of "interdimensional beings".

"Once that's established, the real questions begin, the ones that could change everything," Mr Golembeske said.
Mr Trump confirmed the declassification of the documents after he accused Barack Obama earlier in the day of revealing classified information when the former President said "aliens are real" on a podcast last week.
"He's not supposed to be doing that," Mr Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, adding: "He made a big mistake."
Asked if he also thinks aliens are real, the US President answered: "Well, I don't know if they're real or not."
