A third man was also arrested - but his immigration status is currently unknown

Two illegal migrants have been arrested and charged after breaking into a a home before sexually assaulting its owner.

At 3.16am on February 11, police forces responded to a reported assault in Greenville, North Carolina.


One person then had to be taken to a nearby hospital with various injuries.

Local police determined the incident was a home invasion - and arrested 21-year-old Zaid Mayen of Chapel Hill two days later.

The same day, 20-year-old Jonathan David Garcia-Larios was the second arrest in the case.

Both were charged with a first degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, first degree kidnapping, and first degree forcible sex offence.

It was also uncovered that both men were in the United States illegally.

The US's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was notified and an Immigrations, Custom, Enforcement (Ice) detainer was placed on them.

Three days later, a third arrest was made, 22-year-old John Carlos Calderon.

He was also charged with the same set of offences as the other two men.

At the moment, his immigration status has not been determined and is currently being investigated.

He has been booked into Pitt County Detention Centre without bond.

Detectices from the Major Crimes and Forensic Services Units were also on scene, indicating the severity of the incident.

The arrests of Mayen and Garcia-Larios were carried out in conjunction with the US Marshal service and Chapel Hill Police Department.

Mayen was booked into Orange Country Detention Centre, and Garcia-Larios booked into Pitt County Detention Centre.

An Ice detainer allows the law enforcement agency to assume custody of an illegal migrant to begin deportation proceedings.
