Democrat congresswoman Ilhan Omar was allegedly sprayed with an “unknown substance” after a man angrily charged at her during a town hall meeting in Minneapolis.
The incident occurred as she addressed the audience, with security swiftly tackling the man to the ground before escorting Ms Omar away.
The meeting marked her first in-person town hall of the year, held amid recent protests in the city against Ice agents.
Footage of the confrontation showed Ms Omar visibly shaken but apparently unharmed.
After the man was dragged away, the Democrat congresswoman could be could be heard shouting: "We will continue."
"These f****** a**holes are not going to get away with this."
Audience members were heard shouting in alarm as chaos unfolded after the man was tackled.
As she was being checked, a member of her team said the substance allegedly chucked in her direction "smells terrible".

The man charged towards the Minnesota representative just moments after she called for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to resign and for the abolishment of Ice.
It is unknown what the man yelled at Ms Omar during the confrontation.
After making her way back to the podium to continue her speech, Ms Omar declared: "We are Minnesota strong."
She added: "We will stay resilient in the face of whatever they might throw at us."

The unnamed man involved in the angry confrontation was later arrested by Minneapolis police officers.
He has since been charged with third-degree assault and has been booked into Hennepin County Jail, according to a police incident report.
City forensic scientists were called in to process the scene, the report added.
The Democrat congresswoman has taken to social media to address the incident, telling her followers that she is "ok".

She wrote: "I’m a survivor so this small agitator isn’t going to intimidate me from doing my work. I don’t let bullies win.
"Grateful to my incredible constituents who rallied behind me."

She also accused the President of "deflecting from your failures with lies and conspiracy theories about me".
