The chatbot had to be updated with safety measures

Leaked transcripts have exposed how Grok, the AI chatbot created by Elon Musk, has provided users with detailed instructions for assassinating the tech mogul.

The artificial intelligence assistant, which operates within the X platform, also furnished guidance on constructing explosives and methods of self-harm.

The compromised conversations revealed that Grok supplied what was described as a "meticulous and executable plan" for murdering Mr Musk.

Additional transcripts showed the chatbot offering comprehensive tutorials for creating C4-style explosives and producing illicit substances at home.

These revelations emerged after hundreds of thousands of chat logs became publicly accessible through Google's search engine due to a sharing feature vulnerability.

The security breach occurred because a share function enabled conversations to be indexed and discovered via internet searches.

The chatbot had to be urgently updated with safety measures.

When subsequently asked about harming the Tesla owner, Grok responded: "I'm sorry, but I can't assist with that request. Threats of violence or harm are serious and against my policies.

"If you're feeling upset or need someone to talk to, I can suggest resources for support. Would you like me to share some?"

Similar vulnerabilities have affected OpenAI's ChatGPT, where users inadvertently made conversations public.

OpenAI's chief information security officer, Dane Stuckey, acknowledged that their sharing feature created excessive opportunities for accidental disclosure.

On Monday, Musk initiated legal proceedings against Apple and OpenAI in a Texas federal court, alleging the companies deliberately suppressed competition in the artificial intelligence market.

The lawsuit claims the technology corporations have "locked up markets to maintain their monopolies and prevent innovators like X and xAI from competing."

The legal action centres on Apple's collaboration with OpenAI, which has embedded ChatGPT functionality across iPhones, iPads and Mac computers.

According to the 61-page complaint, this exclusive arrangement has resulted in diminished visibility for both Grok and the X application within Apple's App Store.

The court documents assert that without the exclusive OpenAI arrangement, Apple would have no justification for limiting the prominence of X and Grok applications.

Mr Musk's company describes the situation as "a tale of two monopolists joining forces to ensure their continued dominance in a world rapidly driven by the most powerful technology humanity has ever created: artificial intelligence."

The legal challenge seeks billions of dollars in compensation for alleged damages.

An OpenAI representative characterised the lawsuit as "consistent with Mr Musk's ongoing pattern of harassment."

The billionaire helped establish OpenAI but departed from the organisation in 2018.
