'Final aspects and details of the deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly' Mr Trump said

Donald Trump has declared peace negotiations between Washington and Tehran have been "largely negotiated", and that the Strait of Hormuz "will be opened".

In a post on Truth Social, the President said: "An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalisation between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other countries.

"Final aspects and details of the deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly."

He adds that "in addition to many other elements of the Agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened".

The post comes after what the President describes as a "very good call" with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Jordan and Bahrain.

Mr Trump says he also had a separate call with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu that "went very well".

The President's comments came after mediators in high-stakes talks in Tehran said they believed they were edging closer to a deal to extend the US ceasefire with Iran by 60 days, and lay the framework for discussions on the Islamic republic’s nuclear programme.

Washington reportedly delivered what officials described as a "final offer" to Tehran on Wednesday, warning that rejecting the proposal could trigger renewed military action.

The US and Iran have largely avoided direct confrontation since a ceasefire came into effect in early April, allowing for negotiations to take place in a bid to achieve a long-term agreement.

However, US officials were said to be preparing a fresh wave of military strikes against Iran on Friday afternoon, according to CBS News.

Multiple sources told US media that military and intelligence personnel had cancelled weekend leave amid preparations for possible operations.

Tehran is currently reviewing the latest American proposal, which aims to bring an end to a conflict that has now stretched close to three months and severely disrupted global energy markets.

Pakistan has acted as an intermediary throughout the indirect talks, with Iran’s response expected shortly through diplomatic backchannels.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio earlier alluded to reopening the Strait of Hormuz by force if Iran refuses to restore access voluntarily, but that it would be "Plan B".

To fuel tensions, it came to light overnight that Donald Trump’s daughter was allegedly targeted in an assassination plot by a suspected IRGC-trained terrorist, who was said to be seeking revenge for the killing of an Iranian military commander.

Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, 32, is accused of plotting to murder Ivanka Trump in retaliation for the President’s decision to order the strike that killed Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad six years ago.

The Department of Justice has charged Mr Al-Saadi with involvement in 18 attacks and attempted attacks across Europe and America after he was arrested in Turkey on May 15 and extradited to the US.
