The ruling said Trump was ineligible as a candidate

A Colorado lawyer who argued in favour of Donald Trump’s expulsion from the state’s primary ballot has lauded the decision.

Speaking on GB News, he admitted to being “very glad” with the ruling that dealt a blow to Donald Trump’s presidential hopes.

He told Patrick Christys the decision, which came about in a 4-3 ruling, was a “victory for democracy”.

The ruling said Trump was ineligible as a candidate in the state’s Republican primary contest, citing insurrection.

“We had a constitutional provision that says if you take an oath, engage in insurrection, you cannot take an oath again.

“What Trump did here is inconsistent with that constitutional provision.

“We’re very glad to have his name taken off the ballot.”

With the justices being selected by a Democrat governor, questions have arisen over whether the decision was taken in a partisan manner.

Olson insists this is not the case, and argued the process of picking justices is taken in a bipartisan manner.

He added that Trump’s expulsion is a “victory for democracy”, after being probed over whether a “clear cut agenda” is at play.

While the former US President lost the state by a sizeable margin to Biden in the 2020 election, his camp harbour concerns over the precedent it could set nationwide.

Trump would be unlikely to need a win in Colorado should he receive the nomination, with the state steadfastly backing the Democrat Party in recent years.

He is set to appeal to the US Supreme Court in a battle that could prompt major stipulations in the 2024 race.

Dozens of other US states have similar lawsuits ongoing looking to bar Trump from running.
