The ex-PM will join The People's Channel in the new year

Boris Johnson’s dad, Stanley Johnson, has heaped praise on The People’s Channel after it secured the signing of Boris Johnson.

Stanley told Patrick Christys that the move is a “sensible” one as GB News secured a major political heavyweight for presenting duties.

The former Prime Minister will create and present a new series showcasing the power of Britain around the world as well as hosting the occasional special in front of live audiences.

He will join in the new year and play a key role in the channel’s coverage of both the UK general election and the US elections.

Stanley joined Patrick Christys on GB News to offer his reaction, saying it is a positive step for the channel.

He even revealed that the news had caught him off guard and he did not even know about it until he was contacted by GB News.

“I can’t think of anything more sensible for GB News to have gone and done”, he said.

“I think he will do the job he is coming to do. He is going to entertain, but the first objective is to talk serious stuff and how he sees it.

“He will look to inform, educate and entertain. I don’t want to sound too much like a Boris Johnson fan club as there are some things I fundamentally disagree with him on.”

Speaking about times he has “vehemently disagreed” with his son, Stanley says it is still a positive development for The People’s Channel.

Announcing his first major broadcast role, Boris said: “GB News is an insurgent channel with a loyal and growing following. I am excited to say I will be joining shortly - and offering my frank opinions on world affairs.”

He added: “I will be talking about the immense opportunities for Global Britain - as well as the challenges - and why our best days are yet to come.”

In a video Boris also promised he would “be giving this remarkable new TV channel my unvarnished views on everything from Russia, China, the war in Ukraine, and how we meet all of those challenges, to the huge opportunities that lie ahead for us.”

Editorial Director Michael Booker said: “I’m delighted to say, GB News has got Boris ‘done’!

“We are tremendously proud to have him join the GB News family, particularly as we head into a seismic year of politics both here and across the Atlantic.

“Boris has been the most influential Prime Minister of our generation, and his unique insight into domestic and world affairs will be a smash hit with our viewers and listeners.

“As well as his political skills, he’s an incredibly talented journalist and author, so we can’t wait to start working with him on what will be must-see TV.”
