Earlier this year a poll found over a third of Britons believe DEI policies in the workplace have gone too far

Public sector managers now finally admit what workers have been saying for years: there are too many corporate diversity events.

Bosses at the Pension Regulator are understood to have realised employees are suffering from diversity "fatigue" after it oversaturated the calendar with awareness days and religious festivals.

At one point the quango included 225 events in the year to mark Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (EDI).

The change in approach comes after the Pension Regulator is reported to have included events for everything from Nirvana Day - to mark the death of Buddha - to "Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week", which recognised people who do not feel romantic attraction.

Instead, managers at the taxpayer funded organisation now believe the best approach is to limit DEI occasions to 2-3 a month in order to "maximise impact, avoid oversaturation and EDI fatigue".

"A less is more approach" has been adopted according to the Daily Mail, which says it has seen an internal report on the situation.

Approximately 1,000 people are paid using taxpayer money at the Pensions Regulator with a budget of just under £120million per year.

A Ipsos poll earlier this year suggested that over a third of Britons believe DEI policies in the workplace have gone too far.

A survey of 1,200 British adults found 36 per cent of respondents thought companies had overreached in the area.

In total 31 per cent of respondents thought DEI policies being implemented were "about right", while 19 per cent said that more needed to be done.

Responding to the changes at the Pensions Regulator, William Yarwood from the TaxPayers' Alliance said: "Reassuringly, many public sector workers are as sick of having the woke agenda shoved down their throats as taxpayers are.

"But a minority of pen-pushers employed into these pointless roles continue to make life difficult for their colleagues, with endless rules, regulations, reporting requirements as well as events to mark and training sessions to attend.

"The pensions regulator clearly needs to take its own advice and dramatically cut down on the EDI agenda it seems addicted to pushing."

A spokesman for the Pensions Regulator defended its approach to DE.

He said: "Diversity drives better outcomes for savers, and we are committed to leading by example as a fair and inclusive employer.

"We are also working closely with the pensions industry to share best practice and encourage inclusive governance and will publish our refreshed 2026-2029 EDI approach early next year."
