Vile triple killer Rudakubana has had his tax-funded allowance nearly quadrupled behind bars

Southport murderer Axel Rudakubana has been given back privileges in prison including a TV and DVD player to try to get him to behave.

Despite throwing boiling water at a guard in May, the triple killer has had his regime raised from "basic" to "standard".

HMP Belmarsh in southeast London has also given the 19-year-old more access to workshops, the library and the gym.

"It is outrageous that they have raised him to standard," a source told The Sun. "They are basically bribing him to behave - by saying we'll give you a telly and you can keep it if you don't attack anyone.

"It makes his life a lot more comfortable and also means he can spend more on phone credit.

"He will get a Freeview TV without about 25 channels and the DVD player, though his access to films will be limited.

"Rudakubana is cock-a-hoop about the change, but I doubt the officer who had liquid chucked in his face will be."

Richard Tice, Reform UK deputy leader, said: "I'm appalled. It feels like he is being rewarded for bad behaviour.

"It's the opposite of what should be happening."

Since the incident in May, which is still under investigation by police, Rudakubana had been placed on a four-man unlock - where he cannot be let out of his cell without four prison guards present.

GETTY

While prisoners on the "basic" regime receive £5.50 to spend every week, those on "standard" take in about £20.

Rudakubana was sentenced to 52 years in prison, and it is believed it would cost the taxpayer £53,000 a year to keep him as a Category A prisoner.

But news of his "rewards" behind bars comes just weeks after Hashem Abedi, the Manchester Arena bomb plotter, was charged with three counts of attempted murder after four prison officers were injured at HMP Frankland on April 12.

While in May, a prison officer had their throat slashed with an improvised weapon at HMP Woodhill.

It was one of three incidents at high-security prisons in just 24 hours.
