The attacker tried to grab the child as he walked to school

A horrified mum fought off a man who tried to take her son as they walked along a street in Somerset.

The man attempted to kidnap the boy on Monday morning while his mum was pushing another child in a pushchair on their way to school.


Avon and Somerset Police have now issued an appeal for information from the public following the incident.

The mother and son were walking along Cedar Grove, Yeovil at around 8.30am when a car pulled up alongside them.

Its driver got out and tried to pull the boy away from his mum and into the car.

Witnesses describe the heroic mum holding onto her son and shouting out in terror for help.

The man then fled the scene in a “dirty white estate”.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers have carried out house-to-house and CCTV enquiries and are in touch with the boy’s school.

“While reassurance patrols have been carried out.

"No further incidents have been reported, but please do contact your neighbourhood officers with any concerns.

"If you were in the area at the time and saw the incident or have dashcam footage, we want to hear from you."

The man has been described as 5ft 8ins tall, and of medium build with broad shoulders.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police are attempting to track the man, who is thought to be in his 30s.

A statement released by the Force said the attacker has olive brown skin, dark-coloured hair in a quiff style and a beard.

His car was a “dirty white estate with tinted rear windows”.

No further incidents have been reported, but people are urged to contact their neighbourhood officers with any worries.
