A 60-year-old man has died after attempting to rescue two children who appeared to be in distress in the sea off the Lincolnshire coast.
The tragedy occurred yesterday afternoon near Skegness when the man entered the water to help the struggling children.
Despite emergency services rushing to the scene, including coastguard, air ambulance and RNLI teams, the man got into difficulty in the water and sadly died at the scene.
The incident took place off Ingoldmells Beach, a popular seaside destination close to Skegness.

The man reportedly entered the sea just after 4pm on Sunday, May 25, close to the Promenade in Ingoldmells.
Lincolnshire Police said the incident happened shortly after 4pm when the man saw two children who appeared to be in distress in the water.
In what has been described as a heroic action, the 60-year-old jumped into the sea in an attempt to save the children.
However, he soon got into difficulty himself in the water off Ingoldmells, near Skegness.
Despite the rapid response from emergency services, the man sadly died at the scene.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: "A man has sadly died after entering the sea in Ingoldmells.
"A 60-year-old man has sadly died after entering the water to help two children who appeared to be in distress.
"The man reportedly entered the sea just after 4pm today (25 May) close to the Promenade in Ingoldmells, he got into difficulty and sadly died at the scene.
"Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this very sad time."
