Sajid Javid tells GB News the UK sent six flights of medical aid to Ukraine and will 'send out many more'

Sajid Javid MP has spoken to GB News about the UK Government's humanitarian efforts to help people in Ukraine after Russia has launched more than 25 attacks on hospitals and health centres since Putin invaded.

The Health Secretary announced the UK has sent six flights from the UK "full of medical supplies and equipments and vital medicines and wound packages."

The UK is expected "send out many more flights" carrying medical aid to the Ukraine in the coming two weeks, according to the Health Secretary.

Mr Javid told GB News: "We are coordinating also with our European friends to make sure that together we can provide everything that is needed."

Russian forces have hit more than a dozen hospitals since they invaded Ukraine on February 24, according to the World Health Organisation.

In Mariupol, unceasing barrages have thwarted repeated attempts to bring in food and water and to evacuate trapped civilians.

The city’s death toll has passed 1,500 in 12 days of attack, the mayor’s office said, and a strike on a maternity hospital in the city of 446,000 this week killed three people.

Ukrainian officials reported on Saturday that heavy artillery had damaged a cancer hospital and several residential buildings in Mykolaiv, a city 300 miles west of Mariupol.

The hospital’s head doctor, Maksim Beznosenko, said several hundred patients were in the facility during the attack but no one was killed.
