No arrests have been made after the brazen robbery on Saturday

Thugs broke into a London jewellery store in broad daylight over the weekend, as onlookers stared on astonished.

The dramatic raid, in which the thieves used hammers to smash into the street-facing windows, occurred at a family-run store in Richmond at around 10.30am on Saturday.

Shocked bystanders captured footage of the brazen weekend robbery, showing the suspect smashing their way into Gregory & Co.

The two thieves broke the windows and began scooping valuables into a blue bag.

Meanwhile, staff at the store could be seen removing items from the display in a desperate attempt to withhold the expensive jewellery.

One member at the store could also be seen striking the robbers with what appeared to be a small box, although this had little effect.

The duo were able to escape with the jewellery unscathed.

Owners of the family-run business said they were left "shaken" by the ordeal, but thanked the local community for their support and confirmed that all customers' items were "securely locked" in safes during the incident.

They have remained closed since Saturday's raid, although is expected to re-open later in the week.

The Metropolitan Police have appealed for witnesses over the incident.

Officers were treating the attack as an aggravated burglary, Scotland Yard added. No arrests have been made.

The shop is in Paved Court, a narrow, cobblestone pedestrian street lined with shops, cafes and restaurants.

The west London borough has also served as a filming location for Apple TV's hit show Ted Lasso.

It marks a string of recent attacks on jewellers in the capital.

Earlier last week, in an eerily similar incident, a group of men raided Sultan Jewellers on Uxbridge Road in Shepherd's Bush, also using a sledgehammer to break the windows.

While officers arrived on the scene within three minutes, they were confronted with a hammer as the assailants made off on mopeds.

Police arrested a 33-year-old man at the location on suspicion of aggravated burglary, and he remains in custody.

Several other suspects managed to evade capture, however.
