Veteran friends believe Prince Harry “should be allowed to wear military uniform”, Charlie Lawson has told Dan Wootton.
The Duke of Sussex has been denied the chance to wear military uniform as he mourns Queen Elizabeth II, even though the Duke of York will be permitted to do so at the lying-in-state vigil.
Only working royals – which Harry and Andrew are not – are being permitted to dress in uniform at five ceremonial occasions.
These are the St Giles’ Cathedral service in Edinburgh, which took place on Monday, the coffin’s procession to Westminster Hall, the vigil at the lying-in-state, the funeral in Westminster Abbey and the committal service in Windsor.

Instead, Harry and Andrew have been seen at the events in a morning suit.
Speaking on GB News’ Dan Wootton Tonight about whether Harry should be allowed to wear the uniform, the former Coronation Street actor said he has spoken to four veteran friends on the matter.
Mr Lawson told Dan: “I did phone up some veteran friends and asked them the question because I kind of thought to myself how dare I give a definitive answer.
“So I spoke to three friends from the Royal Irish Regiment and an ex Royal Marine.
“The veterans I spoke to all felt strongly that Harry done two tours of Afghanistan, led his men.
“And therefore should be allowed to well his dress uniform.”
A spokesperson for the Duke said earlier this week: “Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex will wear a morning suit throughout events honouring his grandmother.
"His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."
