A video posted on social media showed the aftermath of the brutal crash.
Footage shows the van upturned on its roof with the driver’s side door thrown open and a panel missing.
The Skoda ambulance can be seen right next to the Vauxhall police van, with its boot open.
The road was closed after the crash at the junction with Pell Street and Crown Street – it has since reopened.
SCAS has confirmed that the two vehicles were responding to separate 999 calls.
TVP has since issued an appeal for witnesses following the collision.
Officers have also asked the public for any footage of the crash and the moments leading up to it. They can be submitted through a portal dedicated to the investigation.
Investigating Officer Sergeant Chris Howlett of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, based at Three Mile Cross, said: “I am appealing to anybody who witnessed this collision to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting reference number 43230351708.
“I would also urge anybody who may have dash-cam, CCTV or camera footage of the collision or the moments leading up to it to please submit this to the force via a dedicated portal for this investigation.
A spokesperson for SCAS said there would be an internal review, and they would “work closely” with the police.
They said: “Following a collision last night involving a SCAS crew and a Thames Valley Police van on their way to different emergencies, three people involved were taken to hospital where they have been treated for minor injuries. No-one was seriously injured.
“As with any collision involving our colleagues and vehicles, we will carry out an internal review working closely with Thames Valley Police.”
