Police have lambasted the 'audacity' of sweet-toothed thief Abeeb Hussain after he was locked up

A burglar who helped himself to slice of birthday cake and stole a golden Koran during a break-in has been jailed.

Dillon Currie, 33, who goes by Abeeb Hussain, was caught on CCTV breaking into a home in Peterborough on July 26.

Footage showed the thief smashing a patio door before entering the property.

After swiping a Samsung phone, Hussain helped himself to a piece of birthday cake from the kitchen and ate it.

Just 30 minutes later, the 33-year-old broke in and burgled a second home, where he took a host of grocery items including steaks.

His DNA was discovered on a cigarette butt that he had smoked and left outside the property.

The following day, he burgled a third home after climbing in through an open window.

He proceeded to steal a 50-inch television, a gold-coloured copy of the Koran and kitchen knives.

“These offences had a significant psychological, as well as financial, impact on the victims.

"I’m pleased Hussain was swiftly identified and has now been brought to justice.

“Tackling burglary remains a priority for the constabulary and we will continue to bring perpetrators before the courts wherever possible.”
