West Midlands Police has still not found 17-year-old Oumar Traore despite making 'several attempts' to handcuff him

Police have launched a manhunt for a teenage boy after a man was fatally stabbed in a violent attack in Birmingham.

Oumar Traore, 17, is wanted for questioning after 19-year-old Yassin Alama was killed in a knife attack on Hutton Road at around 5.20pm on Sunday.

West Midlands Police says it has made “a number of attempts” to arrest Mr Traore, but are now appealing for the public’s help to track him down.

Jenny Birch, from the force's homicide team, said: “This was a violent attack in the street which has sadly resulted in the death of Yassin.

“Yassin’s family have been left absolutely devastated by what has happened, and we are doing everything we can to support them, and to give them answers.

“We need to find and arrest Traore as soon as possible.

"If anyone sees him, or has information about where he might be, they should not approach him but call us straight away on 999, quoting log 3135 of 16 November.”

Police confirmed that they would be using Section 60 powers from 4pm on Monday until Tuesday in the Handsworth, Witton and Lozells area of Birmingham.

The measures give officers the ability to stop and search members of the public without the requirement to have reasonable grounds to do so - which were also brought into use in the Second City on Bonfire Night after violent disorder broke out.

After the violent attack on Sunday, a police tent and forensics team attended the scene, with the street cordoned off to the public.

West Midlands Police said additional officers have been deployed to the area, including high-visibility patrols, to reassure the community.
