“Bit more physical to start with than I’ve seen with women’s football, the Germans I thought tried to knock us off our stride.
“But right throughout the tournament, the football they played, attacking football and their attitude was superb.
“There was no playacting, very few moans at the referee, It was just good honest, open football.”
Nigel then replied by saying: "Yes, not many prima donnas, nobody with a silly show-off haircut that’s what I thought about it.
“They all seemed genuine and nice and the joy seemed real.”
He later asked: “Has the sheer amount of money spoilt it a little bit?”
Before Mr Shilton responded: “I think there’s an element of that, you get a little bit the word prima donnas, you do get a bit that I think.
“And a lot of play acting and players going down for no reason I’m afraid which I think spoils it, I think the crowd appreciated the honesty of the women’s game.”
