The investigation is still in the 'early stages'

A murder investigation has been launched by police following the death of a girl at a house in an Oxfordshire village.

Thames Valley Police officers were called to an address in Islip on Tuesday, where they found the girl's body.

Details of the victim are yet to be released by police.

Detective Chief Inspector Sally Spencer declared there was no threat to the wider public and the incident was "contained".

The girl's family has been informed, and specially trained officers are supporting them.

Police have cordoned off the area, with residents told to expect a police presence as inquiries continue.

Leading the investigation, Ms Spencer said she wanted to "share our condolences with the family of the girl, who very sadly has died today".

"We have launched a homicide investigation, but we are still in the early stages and will provide more details as soon as we are able to," she added.

Parish Council Chairman Dennis Price said he saw multiple police cars along with an ambulance and a van.

"I think they have only been there a short time," Mr Price said about the family.

"We are a very peaceful community, and we do not expect this sort of thing."

Mr Price added that the only time the community had seen "as many official vehicles" was when US Vice-President JD Vance went through the village.

A neighbour told The Times a family had lived at the rental property for about two years.

Another said on Tuesday morning, an air ambulance landed in the village.

Local councillors Alisa Russell, Julian Nedelcu and Gemma Coton shared a joint statement, saying they would do "all we can to offer support".

"This is heartbreaking news for the residents of the village, and our thoughts go out to those affected by this tragedy," they said.
