'Unfathomable and disgusting and indefensible,' Emma Webber said

The mother of Barnaby Webber has lambasted the police's "vapid, poor excuses", urging them to admit they "didn't do their jobs properly".

Speaking to GB News about the Nottingham attack inquiry, which began last week, Emma Webber added their handling of the situation, with the killer being known to the police, was "unfathomable and disgusting and indefensible" - for which their children "paid the price".

The inquiry, led by ex-judge Deborah Taylor, will search for answers as to what happened before, during and after the fatal attacks carried out by Valdo Calocane in June 2023.

Students Barnaby Webber and Grace O'Malley-Kumar, both 19, and Ian Coates, 65, were killed after being stabbed to death by Calocane in his horrific spree of attacks.

Three others were left seriously injured following the killer's spree in Nottingham city centre almost three years ago.

On Wednesday, the inquiry heard that Calocane was charged with assaulting an emergency worker and was later summoned to Nottingham Magistrates' Court. He did not appear, leading to a warrant for his arrest being issued.

Today, evidence was presented to ask why Calocane was not arrested after the warrant - months before the murderer went on his rampage.

Reporting from central London, National Reporter Will Godley said: "We heard from the police officer, the investigating officer, who wasn't notified for some four months that an arrest warrant was even issued."

The officer then admitted the week after he was made aware of the arrest warrant that he did not attempt to locate or arrest Calocane.

Speaking to Will alongside Grace O'Malley-Kumar's father, Ms Webber said: "Yeah, it's hard to know where to begin. I think we just need to look at the dateline on this.

"We saw the footage yesterday of that horrific, violent, terrifying attack. We were brought up to the timeline still at January 2023 and onwards, basically, despite there finally being a charge made, finally being a summons posted to him somewhere...

"We're not quite sure where it was posted to him that was never actually executed... because he didn't bother to turn up at the magistrates court.

"So still, we're talking nearly 18 months later, even though it's written down - we saw it on the on the official notes today: "Extremely violent".

"They just did nothing. And we heard today the excuses of workload which please stop now police because everybody's busy," she added.

"We're talking about somebody that was that was out for a very long period of time who was wanted for very violent offences and assault.

"And this is how the police approach it. I just find it unfathomable and disgusting and indefensible.

"Nottinghamshire Police just just admit, just stop trying to use vapid, poor excuses. You didn't do jobs properly and our children and Ian have paid the price."

On Monday, the inquiry unveiled that three years before the attack, the murderer was experiencing a psychotic episode - an episode during which he bashed in the door of a woman's flat.

The woman fractured her spine by falling from a window in a desperate attempt to escape her home, leaving the victim subsequently requiring surgery for her injuries.

The horrific event occurred just 11 minutes following custodial release.
