The man's marriage broke down years after his victory

A multi-millionaire lottery winner has vanished following a devastating blaze that destroyed his North London home two months ago.

Roger Robar, who scooped £6 million in 1996, had been residing in a modest £200,000 ground-floor flat in Enfield before the fire.

The whereabouts of the former seafood chef remain unknown after flames gutted his property.

A friend told MailOnline: "He used to live here, until his flat caught on fire about two months ago. I have no idea what caused it."

The Martinique-born chef's life transformed dramatically after his windfall nearly three decades ago.

Initially, he embraced his newfound wealth, purchasing a £400,000 property in Crouch End and a £40,000 Range Rover.

He bought the restaurant where he had previously worked for £250 a week and relaunched it as Roger's Seafood.

He also bought a £350,000 beauty salon for his hairdresser wife Mary.

However, the pressures of wealth drove him to abandon Britain for France merely three years after his win.

His return to the UK saw him living far more modestly than during his millionaire heyday.

The fortune that initially promised freedom became a source of torment for Roger.

His mental health deteriorated severely as requests for money flooded in from all directions.

"I regret it day and night. Last week I woke up sobbing and shouting, 'God, I made a terrible mistake, please help me,'" he revealed.

The chef described his millionaire existence as a "suffocating hell."

His marriage to Mary crumbled within three years of the win.

The constant financial demands and resulting conflicts proved insurmountable, ultimately destroying their relationship.

His generosity knew few bounds initially, with £1.5 million distributed to charitable causes.

Yet the constant bombardment of begging letters and financial demands became overwhelming.

"If people ask me, I give it to them. But for every one person I give to, there are hundreds who want more from me," Roger explained in 1999. His wife's relatives proved particularly demanding.

"I didn't just marry Mary - I married her mother, father, aunties, uncles, and cousins," he said.

The daily cheque-writing for family members ultimately poisoned his marriage and forced his escape to France.

Before disappearing, Roger operated Roger's Catering Service, advertising meals at £10 each.

His 2023 social media posts promoted "three of the best recipes including food and juices" for weight loss and health conditions.

His Facebook presence featured cooking videos with relaxing music, showing him preparing fish stews and desserts.

Photos depicted him in chef's whites, sporting a Liverpool shirt, or relaxing at home.

Remarkably, his online profiles contained no references to his lottery windfall or subsequent struggles.

The former millionaire appeared to have completely erased his jackpot past from public view.
