Mother and child cheat death as  car rolls over after crashing into pedestrian crossing

An investigation has been launched into the incident

A young child and her mother narrowly avoided death after a vehicle crashed just in front of them while they were walking on the pavement.

The vehicle appeared to swerve into the pavement before hitting a Belisha beacon next to a zebra crossing, turning on its side before stopping in front of them.


The pair was described as "shaken" but unharmed following the incident.

People can be seen in the CCTV footage running to check on everyone involved in the incident near Warwick Road in Olton, Solihull.

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) confirmed that it had sent two ambulances and a paramedic officer to the scene.

A spokesperson from WMAS said: "Upon arrival, we found a woman and child who were pedestrians and a woman who was the driver of the car.

"The driver of the car and the child were assessed and had non-life-threatening injuries.

"They were taken to hospital for further assessment and the mother was discharged at the scene after only suffering minor injuries."

A shop worker who raced to help after the collision told BirminghamLive: "The mum was in shock and her little girl was only aged around two. We think she had a broken leg. It was a terrible crash."

A spokesperson from West Midlands Police said: "We’re investigating after a car rolled over and landed on a pavement next to a woman and a child in Solihull.

"We were called to Warwick Road in Olton just after 4pm on Saturday.

"The Peugeot driver, a woman in her forties, suffered cuts and was spoken to at the scene by officers and is assisting with our enquiries."

A police spokesperson added: "The woman and the child were left shaken but not physically injured.

"Our investigation continues and we have recovered footage showing the collision."
