Foreign criminals are paying up to £2,500 to leave the country illegally and avoid jail time

Migrants have been avoiding jail by paying to be smuggled out of Britain in lorries, a new investigation has found.

An Albanian man, going by the name of Alphons, is said to be running an operation helping foreign fugitives flee the country, commanding £2,500 for his services.

The man boasts 50 successful and "stress-free" return trips to France on social media, after fugitives "commit a crime and want to go fast".

The investigation, conducted by the Daily Mail, involved an undercover reporter contacting the account asking for help.

Alphons is said to have claimed to be helping an individual who is currently facing up to 16 years in prison, and even admitted he would help those wanted for murder.

The Albanian, who is avoiding jail himself after allegedly being caught involved in a cannabis factory, is seemingly running the operation from Belgium.

Speaking to the undercover reporter, he said: "I left on a lorry. If I had stayed, I was going to be in prison for one year.

"They arrested me inside a cannabis house. I had a fight with people who came to rob the house. The neighbours alerted the police."

When asked why he wasn’t held on remand ahead of the trial, he said: "Prison was full. There wasn’t any space, so they put an ankle tag on me. I cut it off."

He added: "I have taken 50 people out so far. No one has been caught yet."

The reporter was promised a "dedicated place" in the back of the lorry.

"Do not worry. He will not be found," he said. "There are no dogs or controls. It’s not like when lorries are getting into the UK. We have a journey every week and not one will be found."

Criminals escaping justice face the risk of being found if they travel through legal means, such as via ferry or plane.

Instead, being smuggled in the back of lorries, which do not face thorough "checks", gives foreign national offenders a higher chance of escaping without punishment.

Alphons confirmed to the Daily Mail's reporter that four Kosovan-Albanian drivers would be used, and that the meeting spot would be on the Maidstone M20 Services, in Kent, the last refuel and rest stop before the Eurotunnel terminal, and ultimately the rest of the continent.

The drop-off point in France was Aire de Saint-Hilaire-Cottes, 40 minutes inland from Calais.

When asked about the revelations, Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: "It looks like the Government can’t control who comes in or who leaves this country.

"This criminal gang is making a mockery of our border laws and allowing dangerous criminals to escape. This man needs to be jailed.

"Foreign criminals need to be prosecuted and once they’ve served time in prison, deported permanently.

"We cannot allow dangerous criminals to avoid justice."

Some 12 per cent of Britain's 87,063 prison population are foreign nationals.

The ongoing prison crisis has been declared a "national emergency" by the Labour Government, introducing an early release scheme that saw inmates released after 40 per cent of their sentence had been served, as opposed to the usual 50 per cent.

Between September 2024 and June 2025, when headroom in prisons was reaching breaking point, 38,042 prisoners were freed early under the scheme.
