A migrant has been electrocuted to death after climbing on top of a Eurostar train en route to the UK.

The man crossed the tracks of two platfroms at Gare du Nord Station in Paris yesterday evening.

He proceeded to climb onto the roof of a train leaving for England.

The victim died from electrocution and the incident was captured in surveillance footage.

Another man was electrocuted to death at Gare du Nord in 2017.

He also attempted to climb on top of a Eurostar train.

The migrant died from horrific burns which meant that he could not be identified.

An Egyptian teenager was involved in a similar incident in July 2015.

The force of the electric shock threw him below and he was left in a life-threatening condition.

It was revealed last month that Eurostar passenger numbers are up by a fifth despite cheaper flight prices.

The rail operator said it carried 18.6 million passengers last year.

The figure is a 22 per cent rise compared to the previous 12 months.

It also marked a return to pre-Covid levels last seen in 2019.

Eurostar tends to be a more expensive method for travelling from the UK to its direct locations of Paris, Lille, Brussels, Amsterdam and Rotterdam compared to flying.
